报告摘要:

In terms of functionality and efficiency, cellular life is an intermediate between  simple molecular assemblies and precise machines such as computer. To depict what differentiates life from molecular assemblies, we constructed an artificial cell in which a gene produces a protein which in turn duplicate the original gene. The micro-compartmentalization of the auto-catalytic network of the gene and protein was shown to be essential for autonomous evolution. Due to the micro-compartmentalization, the artificial cell and native cell showed a stochastic gene expression to the same extent. The stochasticity rendered the native cells sustainability against unprecedented environmental changes for which no pre-programed logic or device is available. The sustainability driven by the stochasticity might be beneficial for computers.
